Division 03

Trauma Informed Lived Experience Advisory

Lived experience consultancy, domestic abuse and child abuse policy reviews, survivor-led service reviews and independent advocacy support. Offered with structure, boundaries and a clear brief to help charities, local authorities, law firms, housing providers and survivor-support organisations design services and policies that actually work for the people they serve.

Lived experience, applied professionally.

Lived experience is only useful to an organisation when it is offered with structure, boundaries and a clear brief. That is what this division provides: insight translated into recommendations you can act on.

The work is not about telling a story for an audience. It is about improving a policy, a pathway, a service or a letter so that the next person meeting your organisation has a better experience than the last one did.

This is not therapy, counselling or psychological assessment. The advice I offer is based on lived experience, training, qualifications and experience gained in a professional capacity.

Advisory services

Lived experience consultancy

Bringing lived experience into organisational decisions through structured, boundaried advisory input — not personal storytelling.

Domestic abuse & child abuse policy reviews

Reviewing policies, procedures and pathways through the lens of someone who has lived through these systems and knows where they can lose people.

Survivor-led service reviews

Looking at how services actually feel to the people who use them, then feeding back what works, what does not, and what could change.

Independent advocacy support

Standing alongside individuals, groups or causes to make sure lived experience is heard clearly and fairly in decisions that affect them.

Service design & co-design

Advising on how services are built and delivered so they work better for the people who actually use them.

Talks & awareness sessions

Attending events and sessions to share insight, raise awareness and help teams understand the real impact of their practice.

Research contribution

Contributing to research projects by bringing a lived experience perspective that shapes meaningful questions and findings.

Training development

Helping develop training that is grounded, trauma informed and genuinely useful for frontline practitioners.

Advisory panels & boards

Sitting on panels and boards as a prepared, professional voice that keeps lived experience central to decision making.

Who this advisory work is for.

I work with organisations and professionals who want to ground their policy, service or training in lived experience without asking survivors to perform their trauma. Typical clients include:

CharitiesLocal authoritiesLaw firmsHousing providersOrganisations supporting survivors of abuse

I also consider a limited amount of pro bono work to give back to the survivor and survivor-support sector where I can add clear value.

Previous advisory work.

King’s College London — reviewed and commented on training materials made for new midwives, bringing a lived experience and trauma informed perspective to content that shapes how future practitioners respond to patients.

Hampshire Police — part of a panel of survivors who reviewed a policy on police work with survivors, contributing a lived experience perspective to how the force engages with and supports people affected by abuse.

IICSA Inquiry and the Truth Project — involved with the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse and the Truth Project, contributing to the national record of lived experience and helping shape understanding of the impact of child sexual abuse.

Principles the work is built on

Safety

Emotional and physical safety designed in, not added as an apology afterwards.

Choice

People kept informed and given real options at each step.

Trust

Clear expectations, consistently met — the foundation everything else sits on.

Empowerment

Strengths recognised, and decisions left with the person wherever possible.
